CJ7

I watched CJ7 on DVD yesterday to relax. I was not disappointed. If you advise a typical youth in affluence Singapore, "You must work hard." He could understand it intellectually but it is like telling a man living besides a huge lake to save water. The message is lost. He lacks the drive to put the knowledge to practice.
To the movie character, Dicky, in CJ7, his understanding went beyond intellectual, he knew it in totality. He would go hungry the moment his father stopped working. His frustration was he didn't have the means to break out of the vicious cycle.
It may be too much to ask our children to live in poverty in order learn a lesson in life. Perhaps, that is why MOE is promoting service learning.
