The flesh is weak

Yesterday, I took a cab home after attending an election rally. The cab driver taught me a Cantonese saying: “讲话天下无敌,作起事来有心无力” which pretty sums up how he felt about the election. To him, all the politicians speak convincingly but he is not swayed by speeches, he looks at actions. He pointed to the rows of election posters and said that almost all the PAP posters were on top of the opposition. All have the same starting point. Everybody knew when was the nomination date but it was the PAP who acted first and they secured all the more prominent positions.
Though, I am a Cantonese, this is the first time I heard of the saying. Translated literally, it says “Speak like a champion but when comes to work, the flesh is weak.”
